To us, one of the best parts about summer is the spontaneity. It’s warm outside, the schedules are relaxed, and mother earth is in full bloom; the possibilities feel endless and the days are long and begging to be filled with whatever fun you feel up to having.
That feeling of earthy unpredictably, of forgetting your to-do list and just following the impulse to soak up everything summer has to offer, that is the feeling Katie and Kenneth’s big day left us with.
It wasn’t any one choice they made that left us feeling this way, it was several smaller choices anchored in a down-to-earth, come-as-you-are summer attitude that did.
Katie and Kenneth chose Blue Dress Barn for their venue. The barn’s quirky, rustic/vintage vibe was the perfect place for Katie to showcase her elegant art deco lace gown and wedding ring (a serious stunner - the wedding band is everything we didn’t know we wanted). The bride and groom boldly decided to leave the bridal party outfit choices up to each individual, which meant that their favorite people could base their ensembles on their own tastes, preferences, and finances. We can’t think of a lower-stress way to approach bridal party attire.
The couple opted for Michigan wildflowers, the floral embodiment of summer spontaneity, for bridal bouquets and table centerpieces. Stems of silver dollar and baby blue eucalyptus added just the right amount of structure and cohesion to those free-spirited blooms. Inside the barn, the long heritage table was treated with an easy lain eucalyptus garland and votive candles. Vintage floral plates coupled with gallon mason jar centerpieces at the rest of the tables made for a practical elegance that references a simpler era.
The pictures of the whole bridal party, in all of their individuality, has us feeling genuinely carefree. To really *do* summer spontaneity requires a focus on people and experiences, not things and stuff. Katie and Kenneth chose to build their day off of this idea and you know what? They totally nailed it.
